Advice On Long-Lasting Lifestyle Changes

Many people believe the way to make a lasting lifestyle changes is going “cold turkey” and taking your current lifestyle on a 180 tailspin. As much as I respect the motivation and dedication it takes to make such changes, it is typically not conducive to building new long-lasting habits or breaking old ones.

The age old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day” is more applicable than ever. Good things take time, and more importantly, patience. I mean, let’s be realistic here, you have had the same habits for years, maybe decades. You have done the same thing over and over and over. So, trying to change this thing overnight is not the most realistic approach. Instead “seize the day” is in order. What I mean by this is to take your journey one day at a time and just make it through lunch time successfully before trying to plan out the next 6 months of your life. Of course, I think it is important to have short and long-term goals, but not so much so that they get in the way and hinder your daily progress.

You see, life is about balance. Balance cannot be achieved when you are so preoccupied with one specific end goal that you forget to focus on the passing days in-between.

In my opinion, lifelong changes and good habits are the accumulation of single small changes and choices that you make every single day. Instead of focusing so much on sticking to your specific macros for the next 3 months, how about just worry about today. Try to make it through breakfast first, then lunch, then dinner. Claim victory on a single day and all the good choices that you have made. Like I said before in my vlog, no one is perfect, I know I’m certainly not.

Making a small change can be so impactful. For example, say you have 1 soda everyday and your trying to begin a healthier life style. Well, instead of changing every single aspect about your diet on day one, just cut out the soda and keep everything else the same. You’ll be surprised the big difference one small change can make. Once you feel comfortable and in control of that habit, its time to try another one. Soon enough you will have changed many poor habits into life long and sustainable changes.

Do your best not to get down on yourself through the changes, as we all slip up and make mistakes and no one is perfect. Love yourself for everything you are, your imperfections are what make you, you. Embrace what you have been given and make the most of all the time you have. Sometimes you will fall but your journey is only defined by the times you choose to get back up.
